Some Things We Were Told That Are No Longer True

Get ready to have your mind blown! Let’s dive into some common misconceptions that have been debunked

1. “Brushing your mouth before eating breakfast”: We were told to brush our teeth before breakfast to prevent cavities and freshen our breath. However, it’s actually better to brush your teeth after eating breakfast or any other meal! If you must brush before eating, make sure to rinse your mouth with clean water after each meal.

2. “Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a sexually transmitted infection (STI)”: Nope! S. aureus is not typically considered an STI, but it can be transmitted through close contact with an infected person, such as through skin-to-skin contact or sharing personal items.

3. “Treat typhoid while treating malaria”: We were told that treating typhoid and malaria together was the way to go, but actually, they are separate diseases that don’t always co-infect. Treatment for one doesn’t necessarily mean treating the other.

4. “All women have a 28-day menstrual cycle”: Ah, the myth that every woman’s menstrual cycle is exactly 28 days! Actually, every body is different, and so are menstrual cycles! A “normal” cycle can range from 21 to 35 days, so don’t stress if yours isn’t exactly 28 days.

Remember, it’s essential to verify information through credible sources to avoid doing things erroneously. Keep on learning and stay curious!
